Honoring Sean Coughlan: A Limerick Life Remembered (2026)

A life well-lived, a legacy to cherish, and a sudden departure that leaves us all in awe and reflection. This is the story of Sean Coughlan, a beloved father, grandfather, and friend, whose passing has left an indelible mark on those who knew him.

Sean's journey began in the heart of Limerick, where he grew up and made his mark. From Woodlawn Park to Casement Avenue, his presence was felt in the community. He worked tirelessly at Danus Clothing, Krups, and even left his mark on the education system at J.F.K. Primary School. But here's where it gets controversial... Sean's life took an unexpected turn when he passed away suddenly, yet peacefully, at University Hospital Limerick on December 5th.

Predeceased by his loving wife Teresa, and other family members, Sean's legacy lives on through his devoted children, Damian and Kathryn, and his cherished grandchildren, Daniel and Isaac. The bond he shared with his family was unbreakable, and his absence leaves a void that can never be filled.

Sadly, Sean is also missed by Mary, Damian's partner, and Jack, Kathryn's husband, along with a network of supportive family and friends. His sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, and a host of nephews, nieces, and close companions, especially Denis and Mary, all feel the weight of this loss.

Reposing at Cross's Funeral Home on Monday, December 8th, from 5 to 6:30 pm, Sean's final journey will be a private Humanist Service at Shannon Crematorium. The funeral cortege will pass through Woodlawn Park on Tuesday, December 9th, at 2 pm, allowing the community to pay their respects.

In a heartfelt gesture, the family wishes to extend their gratitude to the staff at University Hospital Limerick, especially the Intensive Care Unit nurses, Lucy and Vera, for their support during this difficult time.

For those wishing to offer their condolences, Cross's Funeral Homes are located at 2 Lower Gerald Griffin Street, Limerick, V94X971, and Ballyneety, Co. Limerick, V94A7Y3. You can reach them by phone at 061-410744 or via email at info@crossfuneralhomes.com. Their website, www.crossfuneralhomes.com, provides additional information.

And this is the part most people miss... it's not just about saying goodbye. It's about celebrating a life well-lived and the impact Sean had on those around him. So, as we navigate this difficult time, let's remember Sean's spirit and the love he brought into our lives.

What are your thoughts on celebrating life after a loved one's passing? Do you think it's a healthy way to cope, or does it make the grieving process more challenging? We'd love to hear your opinions in the comments below.
