Major League Baseball just got a little more interesting! The Detroit Tigers and pitcher Kyle Finnegan have officially locked in a deal, but let's dive into the details.
The Tigers and right-handed pitcher Kyle Finnegan have finalized a two-year contract guaranteeing him $19 million.
Here's the breakdown: Finnegan is set to earn a base salary of $8.75 million in the 2026 season and $8 million in 2027. But that's not all! The deal also includes a mutual option for 2028 at $10 million, with a $2.25 million buyout if the option isn't exercised.
And this is where it gets interesting: Finnegan, who turns 34 years old, is also eligible for performance bonuses. He could earn an additional $125,000 each year if he plays in 40, 45, 50, or 55 games.
Last season, split between the Washington Nationals and the Tigers, Finnegan posted a 4-4 record with 24 saves and a 3.47 ERA in 56 relief appearances.
Remember the trade? Detroit acquired Finnegan from Washington on July 31st, trading pitching prospects Josh Randall and R.J. Sales in return.
Finnegan, an All-Star in 2024, has a career record of 26-30 with 112 saves and a 3.55 ERA across 347 games (zero starts) since his MLB debut with Washington in 2020. He's also struck out 343 batters in 347 1/3 innings.
In the postseason with the Tigers in 2025, Finnegan went 1-1 with a 3.68 ERA in six games, allowing three runs in 7 1/3 innings.
